“Why is this not a dream?” is an online participative project addressing the question why we think we are not dreaming right now. This is a simple but at the same time complicated question to be answered.

For the last years I have an interest in taking control over my dreams and finally achieve what is called Lucid Dreaming. A popular technique to achieve that, called “reality check”, is to ask yourself several times in your everyday life if you are dreaming at that very moment. This technique revealed many different interesting aspects and led me to realize this project.

Scientific research shows that the brain is fully active while dreaming as it is in waking life. While in the dream you perceive everything as absolutely normal just like you do right now. How often do people position themselves in that critical state of doubting what they have in front of them and why does that happen?

This website was created so that visitors can easily contribute to the project by submitting their own video answer, their point of view. The answers are short video recordings uploaded and showcased in the front page. you can visit the upload page to upload your own video answer.

The project is in need of promotion. Please forward this to people you think are interested in participating.

As this is part of my master thesis project at c:art:media the project is going to be exhibited in the final master exhibition that will take place at Röda Sten, Göteborg, Sweden in the beginning of May. There is going to be a video compilation of the material gathered, the form of which will depend on the material itself. If you are contributing a video please consider that you agree on giving permission for the use of the material and that you will be credited for this. So, contribute your video answer, why is this not a dream?
